A cold wave is coming, drops of water turn into ice. How to maintain a compressed air system during the severe cold season and avoid or reduce the adverse effects of low temperatures on the compressor and its system? We will fully teach the following standardized operations:

1、 Environmental temperature control

Take good measures to prevent cold indoors in the air compressor station building, maintain the station building temperature above zero degrees, and preferably keep the equipment temperature above 2 ℃ before starting up; Outdoor pipelines, valves, etc. should be well protected against freezing, and heating equipment should be equipped at key locations where conditions permit.

Tip: In low temperature environments, pay attention to the leakage of condensate/cooling water around the equipment to avoid freezing and causing operators to slip and fall.

2、 Precautions for winter operation of two-stage compression air compressor

Power on operation

*The viscosity of lubricating oil increases at low temperatures, which may cause a series of problems and require special attention to the condition of the lubrication system.

*Pay attention to the ambient temperature when starting up. If the ambient temperature is lower than the minimum temperature specified in the manual, a heating device should be installed.

*High viscosity at low temperatures can reduce the oil filtration capacity, resulting in a smaller oil volume in the compression chamber of the micro oil compressor during the initial start-up stage; It is recommended to use original lubricating oil and increase the frequency of oil filter replacement appropriately in low-temperature environments. If the machine is shut down for a long time and turned on in low-temperature environments, the oil filter should be replaced.

*Low temperature causes an increase in condensed water during operation. Timely oil analysis should be conducted to monitor changes in water content.

*Before starting up the micro oil air compressor that is equipped with a heat recovery system, the oil circuit valve connected to the heat recovery system should be cut off; After the compressor is loaded normally, open the valve and switch to the heat recovery state.

*Check if the oil level is normal and add lubricating oil if necessary.

*For water-cooled units, check the water cooler to ensure smooth water flow and no leaks.  

Operation after shutdown

*After the system is shut down from a high-temperature operating state, a large amount of condensed water will be released from the gas in the compression chamber, pipeline, and storage tank in a low-temperature environment. To avoid condensation water freezing and blocking the system, or even freezing and cracking components in extremely low temperature environments, the condensation water in the compression chamber, pipeline, and gas storage tank should be discharged in a timely manner during the process of the system temperature dropping to ambient temperature.

*For water-cooled units, if there may be extremely low temperatures after shutdown, the remaining cooling water in the compressor water cooler should be drained and the inlet and outlet valves should be closed; If necessary, compressed air should be used to blow and evacuate to avoid freezing and causing cooling pipe expansion and cracking.

*For oil-free air compressor equipment that has been shut down for a long time, it is recommended to start it once a week.
